ABOUT
I’m Melanie Damore, a Colorado-based oil painter, muralist, educator, and owner of Denver Art Days, LLC.
My work is rooted in a deep connection to the outdoors and the emotional experience of being in wild places. I grew up along Lake Erie in western Pennsylvania, where I developed an early love for skiing, hiking, camping, and paddling—experiences that continue to shape both my life and my paintings.
After initially pursuing a more “practical” path as a K–12 Art Teacher, I eventually moved west in search of both creative and outdoor community. Immersing myself fully in adventure and landscape, I found a sense of belonging I had been missing. Shortly after, a freak ski accident left me with two broken legs, forcing a complete halt to the life I had finally found.
I experienced the loss of independence, mobility, and access to the outdoors that had defined me. That period reshaped my understanding of privilege, fragility, and presence. It also clarified something essential: life is too short to live disconnected from what brings meaning.
Painting became a way to return—not just physically, but emotionally—to the landscapes I love. My work is driven by a desire to capture the essence of these environments: the movement of clouds, the intensity of color, and the feeling of being small within something vast and alive. Through exaggerated color, shifting compositions, and atmospheric energy, I aim to translate not just what a place looks like, but what it feels like.
I create with the awareness that not everyone has access to these spaces. My goal is to offer a sense of presence, calm, and awe, bringing the experience of the natural world into everyday life.
While I continue to navigate physical limitations and anxiety, I intentionally push myself through both artistic practice and outdoor exploration. Art has become not only a source of personal grounding, but also a way to connect—with others, with place, and with a shared human need for beauty, resilience, and meaning.
